Coming Home

What an amazing couple of days it has been. I feel so extremely blessed to have this new spirit from our Father in Heaven in our home. Yesterday I was started at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden. I have had all three kids there and I feel that all of them have been great experiences. They called us the night before and told us to call back in the morning at 6 am and they would give us a start time. So of course I was up at 5 ready to go, and I called at 6 hoping to have a 6:30 start time and was told they were really busy this morning and they would have to call me back. That was a big time bummer because Mark and I were ready to go. The good thing about not going in right away was that we were able to spend the morning with Cole and Abby getting them ready for the day and talking about baby brother coming. Cole and Abs were so excited for him to get here and kept asking when I was going to the hospital. We ended up getting a call around 7:45 am telling us that my start time would be 8:30.

We arrived at the hospital and were told they were a little behind so it might be a little while before I would be started. By the time everything was said and done I got started about 10:30am. Mark and I got settled in for the long haul and watched the movie The Proposal, which was a fun and entertaining show. I ended up getting my epidural about 1:30. I got it a little early because last time when I had Abby by the time I needed my epidural they were having emergencies and couldn't give it to me for a few hours, so I wanted to make sure that I had it just in case the little guy came quickly. The epidural went great and I just sat back and relaxed.

I was not dilating very quickly with Crew. I sat between a 4 and a 5 for probably 2 to 3 hours and they kept pushing the medicine up, but I was just sitting steady. At about 5:45 the nurse came in and checked me and said that it looked like I was probably a 6, but that was being nice. So at this point we though I would be another few hours. Dr. Bierer showed up at the hospital around 6:25pm and came in and talked to us and said he would be back to check me in about 15 minutes and see if they were going to put in an internal monitor and go from there. So Mark, my mom, and me went back to talking and joking around. At about 6:40 I told my mom and Mark that I was having some crazy pressure and pain and I decided to call the nurse in to check me. And low and behold when she checked me I was ready to go and they called Dr. Bierer and the nursery and we went from there. I then had Crew at 6:48 pm on October 28th. Once Dr. Bierer told me to push I only had to push 2 and half times and he was out. I would have to say it was the easiest delivery I have had.

Crew came out and they placed him on my chest where Mark was able to cut the umbilical cord, and then they started to clean him up and check him out. He weighed in at 7lbs 13oz, and was 20.5 inches long. Perfect, all I can say is that he looked perfect. He was then handed back to me once all of his stuff was taken care of, and I was able to hold and kiss my sweet new angel. For about 30 minutes after Crew was born he did not have a name. Mark and I sat and debated about his name all day. The 3 names we kept going between were Crew, Jace, and Tate. As we sat and held him after he was born we just kept coming back to Crew. We ended up deciding his name would be Crew Curtis (my father's name) Flinders. To be honest it fits him perfectly and every time we look at him we couldn't see him being anything else. Oh how I love this little guy.

The rest of my stay in the hospital went really well and I was able to leave the hospital Thursday evening around 7pm. It was so boring being at the hospital that I was ready to go whenever they felt Crew looked good enough to go home. Besides at this time the hospital only allows 2 visitors per patient the whole time they are there. My mother and Mark were my two visitors and I appreciated them being with me for Crew's birth.
